Cabbage Tree Creek Bikeway

As part of Lord Mayor Campbell Newman’s record $100 million investment in bikeway infrastructure, Brisbane City Council has commenced detailed designs for the construction of the Cabbage Tree Creek Carseldine Bikeway.

The project is part of Council’s Bicycle Brisbane Plan and will complete an important missing link in the Carseldine and Aspley bicycle network.

Project benefits
Cyclists and pedestrians will have greater access to safe, attractive pathways in the Aspley/Carseldine area and to key local destinations such as the Aspley Hypermarket, Bald Hills and Aspley sport grounds and Aspley High School.

The project will also provide a safe and direct route across Gympie Road and improve access to parks and recreational facilities in the area.

Project details
The project will be completed in two stages.

Stage 1 (Phillip Vaughan Park to Gympie Road) will involve:

  • constructing a new shared pathway from Phillip Vaughan Park to the corner of Gympie Road and Graham Road
  • re-configuring Aspley Memorial Bowls Club car park.

Stage 2 (Padova Street to Coonawarra Drive) will involve:

  • constructing a new shared pathway along Nemira Street from Padova Street to Coonawarra Drive and across Cabbage Tree Creek
  • joining existing pathways on the southern side of Cabbage Tree Creek behind the Aspley Ten Pin Bowling centre, housing estate and Compton Gardens Retirement Village
  • constructing a new footbridge to join the proposed pathways on the northern and sourthern sides of Cabbage Tree Creek
  • changing signage along existing pathway to allow cycling access.

Project timeframe
Construction for stage 2 started on 12 May and is expected to last eight weeks, weather permitting. There will be a break during construction to allow for the fabrication and installation of the bridge across Cabbage Tree Creek, before the bikeway can be completed.

Residents may experience occasional parking restrictions in Nemira Street and some noise from construction machinery. Pedestrian and cyclist diversions around the work area may also be required during construction.

Hours of work will generally be Monday to Saturday between 7am-5pm, however work outside these hours may be necessary.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during this work. Advance notification of particularly noisy works or major access changes, including driveway disruptions, will be provided to properties within the works area
