Formerly known as the North-South Bypass Tunnel, the Clem Jones Tunnel (CLEM7) connects Woolloongabba in the south to Bowen Hills in the north. At 6.8km in length, the project is Brisbane’s first major road tunnel.

CLEM7 is being delivered on behalf of Council by Queensland toll road company, RiverCity Motorway Group.

The 6.8 kilometre toll road includes twin, two-lane 4.8 kilometre tunnels. The Clem Jones Tunnel is the first critical component of the Brisbane Lord Mayor’s TransApex vision that aims to reduce deficiencies in the city’s urban road network.

CLEM7 is the first section of the new M7 motorway in Brisbane. The M7 is due to be completed in 2012 following the construction of the 6.7km Airport Link tunnel. The M7 will provide a direct link from Woolloongabba to the airport and the growing northern suburbs.

Opened in March 2010 six months ahead of the contract completion date, CLEM7 is allowing motorists to enjoy faster, safer and more reliable travel. Motorists using the CLEM7 will avoid up to 24 sets of traffic lights and save up to 30% travel time on a cross-city trip.
