Tarragindi shared pathway stage 2

As part of Lord Mayor Campbell Newman's commitment for Brisbane City Council to provide $100 million in new bikeway infrastructure over four years, stage 2 of the Tarragindi shared pathway, from Pope Street to Cracknell Road, is being constructed.

The Tarragindi shared pathway is an important link in Brisbane’s bicycle and pedestrian network, and will provide safe and direct access to Griffith University, the South East Freeway bikeway, surrounding suburbs and local parks, schools and shops.

Stage 2 will connect Cracknell Road with Toohey Road through on-road bicycle facilities including signage and line-marking, as well as off-road shared pathways. The main section of the shared pathway will start at Lawrie Street and continue through the Tarragindi Recreation Reserve to Laura Street.

This project will involve:

  • construction of a 3m-wide x 592m shared pathway
  • widening of an existing drainage structure and constructing a new culvert near Laura Street
  • installation of solar-powered cats eyes (LED lights) along the shared pathway edge and minimal overhead lighting in the Tarragindi Recreation Reserve.

Construction timeline

Construction will commence in early June 2009 and is scheduled to be completed in October 2009, weather permitting.

Council is committed to keeping the community informed about the project and will provide updates throughout construction.
