ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Stable Swamp Creek pedestrian/cyclist bridge and Gaddes Park shared pathway project will involve:

  • constructing a three metre wide, 22 metre long pedestrian and cycle bridge with overhead lighting over Stable Swamp Creek in Gaddes Park
  • installing three metre wide shared pathways on either side of the bridge, linking to Beenleigh Road and Dyson Avenue and to the existing pathway parallel to Evenwood Street
  • installing a 1.2 metre wide footpath on Dyson Avenue between Gaddes Place and the existing footpath leading to Banoon Railway Station
  • installing a pedestrian refuge on Beenleigh Road opposite the new pathway
  • undertaking significant revegetation and rehabilitation works in the creek.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

  • Improved pedestrian and cyclist access to the Banoon Railway Station and between local residential precincts
  • Links to existing paths in Gaddes Park and on Dyson Avenue
  • Provision of a safe, all weather access across Stable Swamp Creek in Gaddes Park
  • Improved health of Stable Swamp Creek
  • Improvements to amenity in Gaddes Park.

IMPACTS DURING CONSTRUCTION

Limited access to Gaddes Park will remain available throughout construction.  Areas where work is taking place will be roped off to prevent unauthorised access and ensure safety for visitors.

Construction work hours will generally be between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday and occasionally on Saturdays.  Local residents will be notified in advance if any work outside these hours is required.

Initial works will include piling, to make way for bridge piers in the creek, and tree removal to allow the rehabilitation works to take place.

The bridge and pathway works are expected to be completed in August while the creek rehabilitation and landscaping works are expected to be completed by October 2010 (all weather permitting).
