Brisbane City Council has completed the Tank Street bikeway project to assist with the management of pedestrian and cyclist traffic from the State Government’s Kurilpa Bridge.
The Kurilpa Bridge will potentially result in more than 5000 pedestrians and cyclists a day entering Tank Street. To accommodate the increased traffic, Council has installed dedicated on-road bi-directional bicycle lanes along sections of Tank and George streets, providing an important link to the wider CBD network.
The project has delivered Brisbane’s first on-road bi-directional bicycle lanes, which allow cyclists to travel in both directions in dedicated on-road cycle lanes. The bicycle lanes feature kerbing to separate the on-road bicycle lanes and vehicle traffic.
The Tank Street bikeway project ensures the street remains safe and functional for all road users with the opening of the Kurilpa Bridge and subsequent increase in both pedestrian and cyclist movements.
